September Features With Love

New Features Coming Soon to Amplify Your Apps

Many new features are on the way and a few bug fixes. Availability within the next few weeks. The release will roll out to the Forms On Fire and branded apps very soon.

These features are curated with love, available in September.

App Features

Here is a breakdown of the new features and improvements that you'll see in the app soon.

Blast Past Fast. New Bulk Scanning With External Barcode Scanners.

Your barcode scanning just got a serious speed boost. Introducing support for external barcode scanners, which are far more efficient than the average mobile phone.  So if you need to scan barcodes at speed, this feature is for you.

Simply set the Barcode Field to “External Barcode Reader” in the side menu, and the rest is pretty much the same. You can link a Data Source containing barcodes and related information and use this to quick scan outgoing or incoming stock, parts, products, etc.

This was tested on a 45,223-row database combined with a Choices Field and a simplified filter formula – and it worked seamlessly. Blast past fast!

Single Glance Task Status Plus Search & Filter. OMGGGGG.

When using the First-To-Claim feature in the past, it was difficult to see which Tasks had already been claimed when using the app. You were required to click through and check each Task – a time consuming and frustrating process.

Now you can see Task status at a glance with the new display plus search and filter when looking for specific tasks. All designed with your field workers in mind who can get on with their day with minimal fuss.

"Why," You Ask? Add Reasons for Reassigned Tasks

Without great communication, a reassigned Task can create confusion. During busy times, communication can be a challenge. To ease this dilemma a bit, we have added the ability to write a reason for the reassignment - so you don't lose context even in hectic periods.

There's a new field on the reassign page on the app which your users can utilize. On the Web Dashboard, it's found under the Assignment History in a new column.

Web Features

Here's a list of web dashboard features that will go along with this release.

Double The Fun With the New REST Connector for Data Sources

The new REST Connector for Data Sources has been completed. 🥳

It’s similar to the existing Form REST Connector – except that it will ingest data rows instead, allowing you to connect to virtually any web service without having to get developers involved.

Smash 💥 The Language Barrier With Multi-Language Forms

You’ll soon find a new “toggle language” option in the Form Designer. With it, change the language and enter your translations – and your users will see the language they’ve selected in the app.

That way, you can smash the language barrier to using Forms On Fire for all your employees – worldwide.

These translations will also be accessible via Excel imports and new Screen API options.

Blast Past Fast for Tasks. Pre-populate Table Rows in Task Templates.

Task Templates will soon enable you to pre-populate multiple rows in a Table.

This will help ease the burden on users of having to manually enter each line item on a Table – and ensure that the correct information is captured every time.

This helps your employees – specifically field workers capturing vast amounts of data – to save way more time in their day-to-day activity.

Automatic Magic. Create Shared Org Level List of User Metadata.

Setting each user’s metadata properties individually seems a bit inefficient, doesn’t it?

That’s why we’re updating the way this is handled. Using this update, you’ll be able to set metadata keys at an organization level, which will then feed through to each user. You can also set a predefined list of values that can be set for that key.

This allows you to standardize the values for users – for example, if you require a person's title, position and region to be completed as part of the user setup, these values will show up on your ‘create user’ page. Data source integration is included!

And Boom. New Column Selector for Form Connectors.

This features is live.

Historically, Connectors that push tabular data to external systems like Google Sheets have included all the Form fields as columns.

Much like our PowerBI Connector, we now have the ability to define columns for tabular Form Connectors.

Boom! You don’t need to have every single Form field pull through to your tables or sheets!

Oh and a Bonus Boom. In case you have not noticed, there is a new "Run After Connector" where you can sequence which connectors run first, second, and so on. Nice for when you want notifications to be sent AFTER data is sent to external storage.

Details details. Send Media Files Separately.

This features is live.

Sometimes you might want to exclude signatures or PDF’s from being sent to your cloud storage. In certain cases, it makes sense to send images only.

That’s why we’re updating form Connectors to give you the option of sending Form answers or media files – or both.

You’ll even be able to select the individual media files you want to attach and send separately.

All of the file-based Connectors will be updated.

Comments Anyone? Add Comment Function in Formula Builder.

This feature is live.

A new icon has been added to the Formula Builder which, when clicked, will insert a comment for you (denoted by /* */ as shown above). Use it to make sure everyone understands the more intricate parts of your formulas (and to discourage unwanted tampering 😮).

Who Are You? New Built-in Functions Available for Website-as-a-Service (WaaS)

Brand new built-in placeholders for injecting metadata about the current web dashboard user into Custom Scripts and the Side Menu. The following fields apply.

  • {{%USERFIRSTNAME}}
  • {{%USERGROUPS}}
  • {{%USERLASTNAME}}
  • {{%USEREXTERNALID}}
  • {{%USEREMAIL}}
  • {{%USERCREATEDTIMEUTC}}
  • {{%USERROLE}}
  • {{%USERLASTLOGINTIMEUTC}}
  • {{%ORGID}}
  • {{%ORGNAME}}
  • {{%ORGCREATEDTIMEUTC}}

This enables you to personalize your branded website even more. An example would be to display the user’s name and organization when they log into the dashboard.

Time's Up. Web Dashboard Session Expiry Time.

This feature is now live.

A session expiry time has been added in order to improve the security of the platform. Using this feature, you can set the maximum amount of time (days or hours) that a user can remain logged in without any activity.

When a user reaches the time specified, they’ll be logged out automatically.
